Richardson

Why do Richardson drivers come to east Dallas?

Richardson is the Telecom Corridor and UT Dallas, and it reads like it. A large share of the people who live in Richardson Heights, Cottonwood Heights, Canyon Creek and the CityLine towers are engineers, researchers and technical managers, and they research a repair before they book it. That suits a shop that would rather show the quick test than talk around it.

The housing runs from 1950s and 1960s ranches in Richardson Heights and Heights Park, through 1960s–1970s Canyon Creek and Duck Creek, to the Breckinridge Park subdivisions on the east side and the towers at CityLine where the PGBT meets US-75.

The cars are sensible and kept well: W204 and W205 C-Class, W212 E-Class and S212 wagons, GLK and GLC, with a long tail of W210 and W211 cars in Canyon Creek that have been in the same garage since new. CityLine adds young professionals in leased CLA, GLA and A-Class.

There is no Mercedes dealer in Richardson; the nearest franchised departments are north up US-75 into Collin County or west along LBJ. Richardson's traffic pattern is north-south, and coming to us runs with the morning commute: Plano Road, Jupiter Road and Audelia Road all leave Richardson and arrive in Lake Highlands, and Ferguson Road brings you the rest of the way.

What is the quickest route from Richardson to the shop?

East of US-75 the answer is a surface street. Jupiter Road runs from Breckinridge south through a corner of Garland to Northwest Highway; Plano Road does the same a mile west and continues through Lake Highlands to Garland Road. Either is 15–20 minutes, a dozen lights and no interchange.

West of US-75, from Canyon Creek, Richardson Heights or CityLine, take US-75 south to I-635 east and exit Skillman/Audelia or Jupiter, then south to Northwest Highway and Ferguson Road, 20–25 minutes outside the peaks.

What do Telecom Corridor engineers want from a Mercedes shop?

Evidence. The owners who come from Richardson usually arrive with a code from a handheld reader, a note of when the symptom happens, and a question about a bulletin they read the night before. We answer with the XENTRY quick test, the guided test results and the actual values from the module in question.

They also want the software side done properly: SCN online coding after a module replacement, adaptation resets after a 722.9 service, updates through XENTRY or J2534 pass-through with the OEM subscription, and a written range with the parts source named.

Why do Canyon Creek and Richardson Heights cars come in with oil leaks and timing codes?

Age and loyalty. These neighborhoods keep their cars, so a W211 E350 or W164 ML350 bought new in 2007 is still in the same garage. The M272 in those cars leaks at the oil cooler seals under the intake and at the cam adjuster magnet seals, where oil wicks up the harness into the sensor connector; the magnet seals are $250–$450 and the cooler seals $650–$1,100.

The W204 C250 with the M271 turbo four is the other regular: the chain stretches, the car rattles on cold start and eventually logs cam correlation codes. On the W212 with the M276, the camshaft adjusters are the usual source of the same codes.

How do CityLine and UT Dallas drivers handle a drop-off?

By rideshare, most practically: the shop to CityLine or the UT Dallas campus is about twenty minutes outside rush hour. DART works but takes longer, since the Blue Line from White Rock Station runs to Downtown and the Red or Orange Line then comes back north; allow an hour.

Drop in the morning during Mon-Fri: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM and we give you a realistic finish time when the car is booked.
