Rowlett
Rowlett is a peninsula. Lake Ray Hubbard wraps the south and east, Lakeview Parkway (SH-66) runs the length of the city, and Dalrock Road and Rowlett Road carry traffic south to I-30. Main Street downtown sits beside the end of the DART Blue Line, Waterview fills the north side, Liberty Grove stretches toward the PGBT, and a sliver east of the Dalrock crossing lies in Rockwall County.
Most of the housing went up between the early 1980s and the late 2000s: brick one- and two-storeys with two-car garages that often hold a boat trailer as well. Rowlett drivers commute north on the PGBT to Richardson and Plano, west on I-30 to downtown, or ride the Blue Line from Main Street.
The Mercedes-Benz population here is older and more practical than in the north suburbs. The W164 and W166 ML and GLE and the X166 GLS are everywhere because they tow a boat to the Dalrock or Paddle Point ramps; W211 and W212 E-Class and W204 C-Class sedans were bought used and kept past 150,000 miles; and the lake-area trades run Sprinters.
The nearest Mercedes dealers are on the far side of Dallas or up in Collin County, so a Rowlett owner is driving thirty to forty-five minutes either way. The difference is that the road to us is I-30 west, the freeway most residents already drive.
The direct route is Dalrock Road or Rowlett Road south to I-30, then west through Garland past Bass Pro Drive and the I-635 interchange to the Ferguson Road or Buckner Boulevard exit, both of which put you in 75228 heading north. The complication is that TxDOT is rebuilding I-30 between Garland and the lake, and the Dalrock and Bass Pro ramps close on a rotating basis.
If you live east of the Dalrock crossing, the SH-66 bridge over the north arm of the lake is your first bottleneck, and it backs up when the I-30 bridge has a lane out. The toll-free workaround is to stay on SH-66 west into downtown Garland and take Garland Road (SH-78) southwest; it runs straight to Buckner Boulevard and Casa Linda in a predictable 30–35 minutes.
Pulling a boat up the Dalrock ramp in August works the 722.9 7G-Tronic harder than any commute, and the fluid Mercedes once called lifetime suffers first. A fluid and filter service at $350–$550 is the right response to a hot-shift flare; if the car is already in limp mode, the conductor plate is the usual culprit at $1,300–$2,200 with coding.
The W164 ML and X164 GL of 2006–2012 are known for air leaks, and a vehicle that squats under tongue weight every weekend wears its rear struts and compressor faster. Rear struts are $1,100–$2,200 per corner and the compressor $700–$1,300; a compressor relay at $120–$220 is the cheap fix we check first.
Because they are the same three cars. The 2003–2006 W211 E-Class carries SBC brakes, and when the hydraulic unit fails the red brake warning comes on; Mercedes extended coverage on that unit to 25 years in 2018, so that repair goes to a dealer while pads, rotors and the counter reset are done here. The 2005–2008 M272 V6 in those E-Classes and in the W203 and W204 C-Class wears its balance shaft sprocket; the camshaft codes give it away.
The third is the W204 steering lock. A C-Class that was fine in the Waterview driveway on Sunday and will not turn its key on Monday has a failed ESL, and it leaves on a flatbed either way; the repair or emulator is $650–$1,200. None of these are reasons to give up on a sound car, but all three deserve an honest conversation about its value.

Towing heat from the lake ramps shows up as hot-shift flare or limp mode; fluid and filter service $350–$550, conductor plate with coding $1,300–$2,200.

W164 ML and X164 GL rear ends sagging under a boat trailer are the Rowlett pattern; we check the $120–$220 relay before condemning a compressor.

W211 E-Class owners from Rowlett: the hydraulic unit goes to a dealer under the 25-year coverage; pads, rotors and the counter reset are done here.

High-mileage 2005–2008 M272 cars kept in Rowlett are candidates for the balance shaft repair at $4,200–$6,500.

For the commuter who crosses the I-30 bridge daily, a $189–$329 Service A with its brake and tire inspection is cheap insurance against a breakdown over the water.
How booking works
Covered for 2 years parts and 2 years labor, up to 24,000 miles, nationwide
Questions
No. A red SBC warning means the system has lost its electro-hydraulic assist and the pedal will be long and hard, and the lake bridge is the wrong place to find out how long. Pull over, email service@mercedesbenzrepair.net, and have the car towed.
The Mercedes-approved fluid for the 722.9, matched to the transmission's revision, with the filter, pan gasket and overflow tube, followed by an adaptation reset in XENTRY. On a boat-towing vehicle we also check the cooler lines.
Yes. The oil cooler seals on the OM642 V6 diesel sit in the valley under the intake and weep onto the hot side of the engine, which is the burning smell after a run down I-30. We replace them at $650–$1,100 and inspect the swirl flap motors while the intake is off.
Sometimes. If the body, interior and transmission are good, a $4,200–$6,500 balance shaft repair buys several more years of a truck that already does everything a Rowlett family needs. If the Airmatic is also tired, the total can exceed what the vehicle is worth.
